Inspired by La Stangala in Northern France which i visited when I lived in Brittany. The cave there has a magnificent view over a deep ravine which I think this work captures.

For as long as I can remember, I have liked castles. Working in the cellars of Alnwick Castle is an abiding memory. The naivety of this work harps back to my childhood. This diptych is a little piece of history.

Stalks nesting on the palace walls
|
| |
This work recalls the stalks which nest on the ancient walls of the El Badi and Royal Palace in Marrakesh. They watch over the changing scene below, making their nests as they have done for centuries, mystical guardians of the march of time.

This is one of my favourite haunts whilst in Barcelona. Set in the Placa Reial it provides an old English atmosphere in the midst of a typically Spanish city. The painting employs the use of an abstract aerial view of the square and its buildings, typical of the St Ives School.
